Oral Cancer

Oral cancer, also called mouth cancer, forms in the oral cavity, which includes all parts of your mouth that you can see if you open wide and look in the mirror. Your lips, gums, tongue, cheeks, roof or floor of the mouth. Oral cancer forms when cells on the lips or in the mouth mutate.

Oral cancer most often appears as a growth or sore in your mouth that doesn't go away. It's a kind of head and neck cancer. You may hear it called mouth cancer or oral cavity cancer. If it's in the back of your mouth or upper throat, that's oropharyngeal cancer.

The stage of oral cancer is one of the most important factors in evaluating treatment options. A stage I oral cancer tumor means the primary tumor is 2 cm across or smaller and no cancer cells are present in nearby structures, lymph nodes or distant sites. A stage II oral tumor measures 2–4 cm across and no cancer cells are present in nearby structures, lymph nodes or distant sites. Depending on the stage of Oral Cancer the type of surgery is recommended
